Talkmaster’s Choice
1992
(live computer installation), 4 computers [18’]
also 2-track version as:
fLvXv$: A Time and Attention Study, or His Master’s Voice, 2-track electroacoustic [17’]

ƒLxXx$ (pronounced "fluxus") is a realisation of Talkmaster's Choice, a real-time computer installation transforming words spoken into a microphone, then played back first in larger, then ever shorter segments, through rhythmicized syllables to seemingly electronic sounds. In 1989 I was interviewed by Zygmunt Krause in a composer-portrait series for Polish Television. Each interview contained the same ten surprise questions. Unknown to me, John Cage transformed our answers into mesostic poems. The text spoken by him based on my words was entered into Talkmaster's Choice; the output, preceded by the poem and a part of the interview, forms the piece ƒLxXx$.
