Five Dodecaphonic Pieces

Five Dodecaphonic Pieces is a series of 12-channel electronic pieces realised in 2016 and 2017. All of them are based on the same fixed permutation of 78 combinations of 2 out of 13 tracks each lasting 520”, as can be seen in the illustration above.

The table on the left shows 78 equally long periods of time, in each of which two sound tracks simultaneously sound at the maximum level: “0” denotes a non-existent track and “1” to “12” twelve existent tracks. Each time period has a specific sound track in common with the following time period, indicated by a bracket. The fades shown on the right of the illustration are according to the formula y = (3x2-2x3)200, where 0<x<1.

The series was triggered by listening during hot summer nights in August 2016 in Barcelona to the overtones of an electric fan.
